Agricultural Extension and Communication Practicum 2023/2024

The Agricultural Extension and Communication course consists of 3 credits, namely two theory and one practical credit. The practice in Agricultural Extension and Communication is a part of the mandatory courses for all students of the Faculty of Agriculture.

Students expect to become more familiar with agricultural extension and communication activities through this practice activity. Moreover, through this practice, students can explain extension activities carried out by the government and the private sector. Students will also demonstrate the elements and stages of agricultural extension and communication in sustainable agricultural development. At the end of this practice, students can create creative agricultural extension and communication materials and demonstrate agricultural extension and communication activities to the public. read more

The visitor of Michigan State University (MSU) Cooperation Unit, USA consisting of four people. The discussion was attended by the dean ranks, Chairperson of the Cooperation Unit Prof. Dr. Ir. Achmadi Priyatmojo, M.Sc., Prof. Dr. Ir. Siti Subandiyah, M.Agr. Sc., Prof. Dr. Ir. Andi Trisyono, M.Sc., Ph.D., and Widhi Dyah Sawitri, S.Sc., M.Agr., Ph.D., and Prof. Dr. Ir. M. Herman, M.Sc.

According to Jeffrey W. Dwyer, Ph.D., this visit aims to establish cooperation in the academic field, especially at the master and doctoral levels. Previously, in the 1990s MSU had collaborated with Faculty of Agriculture UGM in developing agricultural research and education. This is also one of the reasons for MSU USA to re-establish cooperation with Faculty of Agriculture UGM. The implementation of MBKM curriculum-based activity, which is planned to be implemented in the second semester of the 2021/2022 academic year, is in the form of Internship and Research Activities. The signing of Cooperation between Faculty of Agriculture UGM and Faculty of Agriculture UNS

In a series of preparations for implementing “Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka,” the Faculty of Agriculture of UGM conducted a collaboration with the Faculty of Agriculture of UNS. The implementation of MBKM, which is planned to be implemented in the second semester of the 2021/2022 academic year, is in the form of Student Exchange Activities within the same Study Program at different universities. It is pioneered by the study program of Agricultural Extension and Communication UGM and welcomed by the study program of Agricultural Extension and Communication UNS. Guest Lecture on Agricultural Sociology: IT Development Strategies during the Industrial Revolution 4.0

On Wednesday, November 18, 2020, the Agricultural Extension and Communication Study Program held a guest lecture for the 2020 Agricultural Sociology course. In this guest lecture, Wilda Romadhona, as the Head of Regopantes, delivers her talk. Wilda Romadhona is also an alumnus of the Agricultural Extension and Communication Study Program, graduated in 2012. The lecture coordinators of the course also attended this guest lecture.

The main topic in this guest lecture was “Strategies to Develop IT to Farmers during the Industrial Revolution 4.0”. This topic becomes interesting to discuss, considering that Indonesia, as an agrarian country, must be the vanguard for agricultural development. In her lecture, Wilda Romadhona explained that one of the strategies that can be used to develop IT to farmers is to introduce start-ups about agriculture. In the era of industrial revolution 4.0, many agricultural start-ups greatly facilitate farmers in their farming activities. read more

Study Program of Agricultural Extension and Communication (PKP) UGM Successfully Organized “Kapitu” Virtual Exhibition

The Agricultural Extension and Communication (PKP) Study Program, Universitas Gadjah Mada, successfully held the 7th biannual exhibition called the 2020 “Kapitu” Exhibition, with a series of events from September 28 to November 14, 2020. This event aims to introduce the Study Program to a broad audience, especially high school students. This time, Kapitu presents a new and different appearance from the previous one because it is held online and streamed through social media platforms.

This year, Kapitu Exhibition carries the theme “Zenemic: Z Generation Nandur di Tengah Pandemik” held from September 28 to October 22, 2020. The selection of this theme aims to increase the younger generation’s knowledge about farming activities during the COVID-19 pandemic and enrich students’ insights regarding agricultural activities amid the pandemic. The series of events on the Kapitu Exhibition consists of competitions, an exhibition of the PKP lab practicum results, and a talk show. The competition consisted of photography, essays, podcasts, and TikTok, which was attended by hundreds of high school students from all over Indonesia. read more

Through creative and innovative ideas presented by Fitria Khoirun Nisa, “Co-Farming” led her to become one of the Top 10 Best Talents IndonesiaNEXT 2019 By Telkomsel from 4500 students 280 universities in Indonesia. Co-Farming is an agriculture platform that helps farmers and agricultural extension workers access agricultural information in an integrated, easy, fast, and reliable way in various forms of presentations.

Fitria Khoirun Nisa, a student from the Agricultural Extension and Communication Study Program Class of 2016, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada, recently graduated in August 2020. To participate in this activity, Fitria must go through a series of selection processes in the IndonesiaNEXT program.  The series of IndonesiaNEXT 2019 activities opened with a public lecture themed “Digital Leadership” by many professional speakers competent in their fields. Also, online courses are provided consist of creative content, office and presentation, and creative design. The training was also conducted with the theme “Creative Design for Powerful Presentation.” Furthermore, international certification is carried out for participants to increase their capacity in preparing professional skills in the industry. After that, three to four of the best participants from each city will participate in the national boot camp as the final stage to become The Best IndonesiaNEXT 2019 Talents. read more

Training of Stacked Buckets “Ember Tumpuk” and Liquid Organic Fertilizer in Sambirejo Village

The Study Program of Agricultural Extension and Communication (PKP), Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics, in collaboration with BRI Microfinance Center, conducted assistance activities for banana cultivation in Sambirejo Village, Ngawen District, Gunungkidul Regency on May 31, 2020. During the Covid-19 pandemic, training is continued through an online platform. One of the training is teaching farmsers on how to assemble stacked buckets (“ember tumpuk”) and liquid organic fertilizer from kitchen waste or leftover fruits by Nasih Widya Yuwono, S.P., M.P, a lecturer in Soil Science, Faculty of Agriculture UGM. With this stacked bucket, farmers can harvest liquid fertilizer and larvae for tilapia or catfish feed.
